Understanding EVs and IVs

IVs (Individual Values) range from 0-31 and are set when you encounter or breed a Pokemon. They represent a Pokemon's genetic potential. Higher IVs = higher stats. A "perfect" Pokemon has 31 IVs in all relevant stats.

EVs (Effort Values) range from 0-252 per stat with a total cap of 510. You earn EVs by defeating Pokemon or using vitamins/feathers. Every 4 EVs = +1 stat point at Lv. 100.
