What Are Competitive Tiers?

Smogon University organizes competitive Pokemon into tiers based on usage statistics. Pokemon used more frequently in battles move up tiers, while less-used Pokemon drop down.

OU (OverUsed) — The main competitive tier. Most competitive battles happen here.
Ubers — Too powerful for OU. Legendary and extremely strong Pokemon.
UU (UnderUsed) — Strong Pokemon that aren't common enough for OU.
RU/NU — Lower tiers for niche but viable Pokemon.
LC (Little Cup) — Unevolved Pokemon only, at level 5.
VGC — Official Video Game Championships doubles format.

Data sourced from Smogon University analysis. Sets reflect Gen 9 (Scarlet & Violet) metagame.
